Gregory Echineque is leaving Rutgers. Why? Probably because he's sick of losing, probably because he doesn't think Fred Hill knows what he is doing, and probably because Dan Hurley egged him on.

Blame this mess on Bob Mulcahy. He's the one who fired Gary Waters. All Waters did was have mostly winning seasons. Was Waters fantastic? No, but he was a helluva lot better than Fred Hill.

West VA blows out Rutgers by over 30 points. How bad is Rutgers? Well, put it this way, no one seems to be saying, "oh, hell, we have to play Rutgers."

Close is great for horseshoes and hand grenades. In sports, who cares? North Carolina pretty much had its way with RU last night. The Knights did make it close at the end, but a loss is a loss. Are they better than last year? Yes! Is that good enough? No!

More Bowl games. It's boring, it proves nothing except the guys in white, or blue or red are better than the other guys in blue, white or red. Back in the DAY there were 4 or 5 bowls, and they meant something. Today, it's a joke. Fifty teams are in bowls. Hell, there are only 110 teams in Div One. You gotta be really lousy if you don't get invited.

RU at Christmas

The basketball team now enters the real season. It was nice to have all those softies, and the team did seem to get better. BUT, they were big time softies, and the margins of victory were very small except for the St. Peter's game. They probably won't win 3 more games.

As for football, it would be nice to have a quality win over a big time opponent. The wins look great until you look at who we beat and who beat us over the years.

As for the Women's team, there won't be a Final Four this year!

Barring an incredible collapse, RU should handily defeat Syacuse on Saturday. BUT, the Orange are never easy for RU, and their coach hates Greg Schiano. It should be interesting.

As for basketball, it's gonna be a very l-o-n-g season

One hundred and forty million dollars was spent to enlarge the stadium. Was it necessary? The answers are YES and NO.

The stadium will not be filled for most games under the current schedule. There just aren't enough fans who want to watch so-so teams. Bring in Ohio State or Texas, and the place will be packed.

Right now, with so many out of work, and with a schedule filled with mediocre teams, expecting a 'sellout' is not rational. West Virginia might have the place jumping, but most of the Big East just isn't glamorous enough.

In these very tough economic times, it might have been better to use the money for othe purposes.

The Yankees have been beating up on Philly pitching. Of more importance, the "Big 3" Philly hitters are not doing very well. Ya never know, but Yanks look good

Rutgers got away with one, no thanks to their coach. Leading, on a dreary night, Schiano called for a fake punt. Why? There is no logic to explain it. Army started to move, and then gave the ball back with a fumble. Rutgers got lucky. This isn't the first time Schiano had tried a dumb play like this.

The Yanks had a reason to lose, lousy pitching. The umps had no such excuse. Their calls have been incredible. Never have I seen so many bad calls. Everyone is screaming for instant replay. Why not? What's the problem?

Concerning Rutgers, there is no way a freshman QB is going to win lots of games against top opponents. Question is, why did Shiano forget the run game and go mostly with the pass. The defense just couldn't stop the running game of Pitt, so put everything together and RU was lucky to be in the game.
